Aged wine can be a bit divisive. What you gain in savoury complexity and smooth mouthfeel, you lose in brightness and fruit, or so we're told. Every now and again you come across a wine like this, an absolute score, the perfect balance of age and youth! We have no idea if this wine was any good upon release but frankly, who cares? It's drinking unbelievably right now. Soft and smooth with velvety tannins BUT vibrant and energetic with bright fruit and perky acid. Classic cab sav: blackcurrant/cassis, black olive, clove, plum and plenty of chocolate. Honestly this price is a bit silly on our part. Again, don't buy this to put it in the shed, get this straight into your regular rotation, it's got so much to give right now.
