Why do we love this wine?

You know what you do with great things? Double down. Or, double double down. That’s a long way of saying, the best way to enjoy great wine is from 3L bottles, so that’s what we’re offering.

The concentration is immense. There’s a plush, full-bodied fruit richness that few wines could match. Halliday said “The intensity of this 100% shiraz burns like an arc light across the senses”.

36 months in new French Oak (specifically, Dominique Laurent) imparts an unmistakable power and elegance to this wine. The concentration is striking and completely captivating, so pure and pristine you can pick every tasting note as distinctly as if you were eating them off a plate. Mulberry, blackcurrant, tomato leaf, raspberry liqorice, french vanilla, and roasted coffee beans all strike the nose and palate with electrifying persistence. And the tannins, oh, the tannins. This is remarkable in every sense of the word.

Safe to say, this wine will continue to live for years to come, so find a space in the cellar and wait for the once in a lifetime ocassion to come around.

Review

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Deep garnet colored with a touch of remaining purple at the rim, the 2012 The Laird is one of those wines you could just go on smelling all day. It opens with a complex perfume of kirsch, dried mulberries, blackberry tart and spice cake over cloves, mocha, dusty earth, incense, star anise, yeast extract and aged beef. The full-bodied palate is drop-dead seductive, unfurling in the mouth to reveal exotic spice, meat, earth and berry preserves layers, supported by firm, velvety tannins and seamless acid. The finish seems to go on forever—and this is exactly what you want it to do. Stunning.
